The armpit of Colorado...complete with stinky smell of cow paddies from neighboring slaughterhouses nearby. The roar of trucks hauling livestock at night kept me up camping here with the scouts. Of all the stunning beauty Colorado has to offer, I can think of no uglier place in the state. Vast open emptiness. The good reviews boast about the birding and shooting opportunity. All I can say is different strokes for different folks. If walking through thigh-high grass, getting thorny stickers in your socks is your thing, this is your place. We should have given this part of the state to Nebraska where it belongs. Yawn.
It was nice. Open Plains so be prepared for wind. A lot of wind.
Great spot on the Pawnee Grasslands. Lots of birds and pronghorn in the area. Good facilities and had an awesome trip.
Looking for unpopulated camping? This is a wonderful place. The grasslands are so interesting. The campground is primitive (no electric or sewer), the sites are very spacious and most have good privacy, and the price is reasonable. Plan a couple days and just relax. The town of Briggsdale is small but you can get gas, food and drinks there.
Quite campground that isn't to far off the beaten path. Moderately large and level sites.
